This Valentines Day I watched 'an affair to remember'. Last year I had spent the day watching South Park so this is a huge upgrade. Well my original plan was a Klaroline marathon, to watch all the scenes of Klaus and Caroline together. 'So you’ve never felt the attraction that comes when someone who’s
capable of doing terrible things for some reason cares only about you?' This pretty much sums them up. But unfortunately as I had somewhat overestimated my internet download speed I was left with incomplete episodes. So instead of brooding over it, I decided to watch this movie instead. Major spoilers ahead...So, an affair to remember...
Girl and guy meet each other on the cruise. The guy is kind of a jerk; a narcissistic womanizer with a rich fiance, but falls for the girl. The girl is already 5 years into the relationship with some guy but this one makes her realize she is no longer in love with the old guy. Long story short, they decide to ditch the 5-yeared love for this 5-day one. The only practical thing about there whole infidelity was that they decided to wait 6 months before getting together. It would have been acceptable if they did it to really find out if they were actually in love or it was just a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing; but they did it so that the guy could take care of his girl by standing on his own legs. Pun not intended because the girl actually is not able to stand on her legs after the accident on the day they are supposed to meet. Slight misunderstandings and confusions abide but they make up in the end.
The plus points... There was Cary Grant, the movie was a technicolor, the gestures and the sneaking around was kind of adorable. Cary Grant waiting for the girl on the top of the Empire State Building, from 5 o'clock "till midnight"... till midnight.... "in the thunderstorm"... in the thunderstorm... was legendary. The old fiances not being a problem was new, otherwise one could almost always expect them to stir up some trouble between the new lovebirds. On the downside, the ship crew and the people on the cruise and their reactions, the whole thing was kind of a hyperbole. When the movie started the initial meeting between the guy and the girl made me think of before sunrise. But it was a whole different deal. Not too much dramatics but quite predictable. I didn't mind watching it but I'd say there are better things you can spend your time on.
